In the remote villages of rural Maharashtra, access to clean drinking water has long been a daily struggle. Women and children often walked over 3 kilometers each day to fetch water — not always clean, and often unsafe. This situation affects not just health, but also education, income, and overall well-being.
Water is not a luxury. It’s a human right. And this year, we decided to take bold action to make it accessible.
The Vision: Water at the Doorstep
Our goal was simple:
Install community borewells to provide clean and safe drinking water for over 3,000 people.
After months of planning, surveys, and partnerships with local panchayats, we launched our “Water for Life” initiative in early 2025. With support from donors and volunteers, we began the work in four water-scarce villages: Lohgaon, Bhivpur, Ambarwadi, and Temburni.
The Process: Drilling for Change
The first phase involved identifying the most critical areas through water table surveys and need assessments. Then came the drilling, pump installation, and construction of overhead tanks and taps for easy access.
Each borewell includes:
A deep tube well up to 250 ft.
A solar-powered pump system for sustainability
Filtration unit to ensure potability
4–6 taps placed strategically across the village
Impact in Numbers
✅ 4 borewells installed
✅ 3,000+ people now have access to safe drinking water
✅ Daily water collection time reduced from 3 hours to 15 minutes
✅ 30+ girls back to school because they no longer spend mornings collecting water
Lives Transformed
Savita Bai, a farmer and mother of two, shared her story:
“Earlier, we had to wake up at 4 a.m. and walk far to collect water that often made our kids sick. Now, I just fill my bucket outside my home. My daughter doesn’t miss school anymore.”
We also saw a drop in waterborne illness reports from the nearby PHC (Primary Health Centre), especially among children under 10.
Challenges We Overcame
Like every grassroots project, this too came with obstacles:
Unpredictable ground conditions in Bhivpur delayed drilling
High summer temperatures put workers at risk
Power outages threatened pump reliability, which led us to switch to solar-based systems
Yet, through it all, our team stayed committed and the community stood with us.
Sustainable & Scalable
This isn’t just a one-time effort. We’ve trained local water committees in each village to manage and maintain the borewells. They’ve been provided with tools, spare parts, and technical training for minor repairs. We’ve also established a reporting mechanism for future issues.
Our next goal is to expand this project to 10 more villages by the end of 2025.
💧 Sponsor a Borewell: ₹80,000 (~$950) brings clean water to an entire village
